Charli Howard's journey over the past few years has the ability to inspire a generation.
She began her career as a budding model signed and snapped up by the industry when she was just a teen however, she soon discovered the dark and dangerous world that lies behind the camera.
Charli was constantly under pressure to alter her body and change her look to fit in with the thin models that are often splashed across the pages of magazines and international runways. She soon found herself slipping into a very unhealthy mind set in order to showcase the size 4-6 sample sizes.
Charli would take up fad diets and strenuous exercise regimes to shave inches off of her already narrow hips and waist as it was quickly brought to her attention that she wasn’t booking jobs based on her current measurements.

Her agency had been highlighting the areas of her ‘UK size 6-8 frame’ that they felt she needed to ‘tone and slim down’ for quite some time but it wasn’t until she failed to fit into a pair of leather trousers at a photoshoot that she faced an ultimatum. Lose weight or risk being dropped from representation.
This was the final straw and Charli decided to put herself and her health first, leaving the world that had tormented and ridiculed her behind. However, she posted out about her mistreatment onto her personal Facebook page which went viral worldwide and forced her into a media spotlight.
She decided to use her new-found platform for the greater good of others who may be going through a similar experience. Her social media accounts promote body positivity and she has since been featured in Vogue as she continues to model her newly found confidence which looks GREAT on her.
Charli Howard has recently published the book Misfits: One Size Does Not Fit All documenting her story. Daisy Maskell sat down with her to talk more about her journey of self-discovery and her incredible story.
