Rising from London is a singer-songwriter who is making her mark in pop music in the only way she knows how to: with the gift of her gab.
Like many people, we first discovered SKYLAR on TikTok where her video series writing songs inspired by star signs went viral (as an Aquarius writing this, the accuracy of the videos is disputable) and showcased her ability to essentially rap-sing, packing in as much descriptive language as possible in one sitting.
Through her singles, including “Teenage Culture” (which has amassed almost 2.5M streams to-date) and “Hair Tie” (which was released following her viral moment), SKYLAR is documenting the world she knows: life as a British teenager analysing her friends and the situations that they find themselves in. In the case of “Teenage Culture”, this was missing school during COVID, and in “Hair Tie” it’s crushing over a guy at a house party.
Whilst her current singles are catchy and filled with plenty of zingy one-liners, it’s her upcoming music we’re most excited about. After all, if her music is based on her life, and her life is only about to get more interesting as her profile grows… who knows? Maybe her next single might be about this interview.
SKYLAR sat down with James Gilmore to talk about writing the truth in her music, her analysis of star signs and more.
