Katy Perry

Just as we’d thought that all of the contenders for Song of the Summer had made themselves clear… this week has brought us new Katy Perry, Mark Ronson & Camila Cabello, Miley Cyrus, The Chainsmokers & Bebe Rexha, Craig David, Lauv, MoStack…. And that’s just the tip.

Featured Song: Katy Perry – Never Really Over

If we completely ignore “Witness”, Katy Perry has had a relatively flawless pop career to date. Unfortunately though, we can’t ignore “Witness” because it was a shambles of a long overdue return and really quite screwed things over for the pop star. However, with a new project underway, it seems that Katheryn has learnt from her mistakes and “Never Really Over” is a pop banger!

She does the whole fast-talking thing in the chorus that we have come to get used to in pop music as of late and the single is produced by “365” collaborator Zedd! After “Witness” we were scared about what the future of pop Queen-dom looked like, but “Never Really Over” shows us that for Katy Perry, it isn’t nearly over yet.

When we heard that Miley would be releasing new music we expected one single… not a whole EP!

Other Good Ones

Mark Ronson – Find U Again (feat. Camila Cabello): It’s felt like too long since we heard a new Camila song (even though her self-titled album was released only last year), and this Mark Ronson
collaboration sounds like her own single in its own right. Her vocals shine on Ronson’s production and we can imagine it playing out at our Summer BBQ’s.

Miley Cyrus – Mother’s Daughter: When we heard that Miley would be releasing new music we expected one single… not a whole EP! “SHE IS COMING” features 6 new singles, including the new single “Mother’s Single” which exactly what a Miley Cyrus song should sound like in 2019. One thing nobody can deny about Miley is just how strong her vocal range is – and this is a song that only she could sing (and she does so perfectly).

The Chainsmokers – Call You Mine (with Bebe Rexha): We’ve had a lot of Chainsmokers’ music lately – much of it good but ignorable – but a collaboration with soon-to-be queen of pop Bebe Rexha might be exactly what they needed. The song has a HRV (high repeat value) and doesn’t feel too far away from 2017’s “Memories… Do Not Open” era (and the singles beforehand) which was the producer’s best era yet.

It’s no secret that Rita isn’t many people’s favourite vocalist.

OK, you want more?

ROSALÍA – Aute Cuture: She can do no wrong and this song bangs in a big way! If she isn’t one of the biggest artists on the planet by the end of 2019, we’ll eat our hat.

Tiesto, Jonas Blue & Rita OraRitual: It’s no secret that Rita isn’t many people’s favourite vocalist, but this is a good pop song. After all, a pop song with 3 producers (two of them named), 5 more co-writers and three “performers” must be a hit… right?!

Lauv – Sad Forever: New Lauv music is nothing to complain about. We can’t help but feel that if it was released on a less packed New Music Friday it would get the actual attention it deserves, but this is yet another very strong, pop-perfect single from Ari.
